• January 13, 2010 - LOCAL "FOOT SPAS" DO NOT OFFER LEGITIMATE REFLEXOLOGY

Last night King 5 News Investigators ran a story entitled "Will new trend in spas rub you the wrong way?" These "foot spas," which are opening up around the Northwest, claim that they offer reflexology or "foot massage," as well as traditional massage. The news story exposed these“foot spas” as less than legitimate businesses, often operating outside of their legal scope (and at times with no business licenses).

These spas are of great concern to massage therapists and reflexologists alike, as they do a disservice to both professions by operating illegally and causing distress and/or actual harm to the public. What they offer is NOT reflexology (nor is it legitimate massage), and the uninformed public may not be able to distinguish between the two.
